Abetted by English dancemeisters Fila Brazillia (a.k.a. Steve Cobby & Dave McSherry), Afghan Whigs frontman Greg Dulli crafts a more laid-back mood than his band’s usual alt-rock-’n’-soul fury. Not that the drama is any less intense. Framed by drowsy R&B; piano, horns and strings, Dulli’s vocal three-ways with Harold Chichester and Shawn Smith explore his pet themes of unrequited lust, persecution and other states that thrive in shadows. Perfect for any after-dark affair. The group plays the Knitting Factory Hollywood on Nov. 1.
