Plans for Renovating Old City Hall OKd
The City Council unanimously approved floor plans and additional costs for renovating one of the old Hillcrest Drive city hall’s two buildings.
The 401 Hillcrest North Building will include office space for the Conejo Recreation and Park District, a theater and rehearsal hall for the Arts Council Center, a community meeting room and a cafe. The city already leases the facility’s south building to the National Park Service.
The $4-million renovation, approved in July, includes landscaping and parking lot improvements. On Tuesday, the council agreed to an additional $1.6 million in building improvements, which it will split with the park district.
The council also agreed that the $175,000 annual cost of maintaining the building should be split with the park district.
The north building, built in 1970 on land donated to the city by the Janss Corp., was vacated in 1988 for asbestos removal. The material was removed by the city in April.
