Praise for Chapman University

* Re “Engineering Chapman From the Sidings to the Fast Track,” (Oct. 22):

As a classmate of George Argyros at Chapman University in the late ‘50s, I continue to admire his devotion to our alma mater. His tireless efforts as chairman of the board of trustees, along with the outstanding leadership of President Jim Doti, have made Chapman one of the outstanding institutions of higher learning in Orange County.

Despite its amazing progress, the faculty-student ratio has remained small, and a value-centered education is still the mission of the university. What a legacy for future students!

* Thank you for the wonderful article on Chapman University.

However, you failed to mention the two things that really make it unique and special: commitment to small classes of 18 to 20, and one-on-one, accurate academic advising.

My son, a recent graduate, felt comfortable and connected from his first semester. In his classes he could ask questions, get answers and was called by his first name. His advisors made sure he had the classes he needed to get out in four years.

A vastly different experience from that of my other son, who attended a state university. Three cheers for Chapman and a job well done.
