Dissident’s Standoff Enters Second Week

Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi entered the second week of a roadside protest, with her supporters pledging the Nobel Peace Prize winner would not back down from her confrontation with the country’s generals. Suu Kyi was stopped along with several members of her political party Aug. 24 as they attempted to travel outside the capital, Yangon, to carry out political organizing. They have been camping in their vehicles in a Yangon suburb, refusing to return to the capital.
