Sample May Not Aid Death Row Inmate

Crucial evidence the defense says could exonerate a man set to be executed this week may have been compromised and left unsuitable for further DNA testing, according to lawyers for death row inmate Derek Rocco Barnabei. Attorneys for Barnabei, who killed a former girlfriend, said a container holding a vaginal swab taken from the victim had been opened at some point, casting doubt on its suitability for new DNA tests. Sarah Wisnosky, 17, was beaten to death in September 1993.
