Exploring the True Colors of Arteries

Share

The interesting article on basket-weaving (“These Knots That Bind Them,” Aug. 31) contained a significant error: Gerri Johnson-McMillin, in describing the color of the heart, said she had thought of doing it a darker bluish, like an artery.

Arteries are newly refreshed blood and are bright red. The only exception I can think of is the pulmonary artery, carrying old dark blood from the right side of the heart to be recycled by the lungs.

No criticism intended.
