Surf City The 14th annual California Street Longboard Championships will return this weekend to Surfers Point in Ventura. The event will feature more than 250 amateur competitors, including several men’s divisions and a women’s open division. Elimination heats will begin Saturday at 6:30 a.m. The finals will be Sunday at 6:30 a.m., followed by an awards ceremony and prize drawings. In a related event Saturday at 7:30 p.m., the Surfrider Foundation will present a screening of Bruce Brown’s “Endless Summer” at the Ventura High School auditorium, 2155 E. Main St. $8 general, $6 children under 13.

Living History
The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library near Simi Valley will play host to a Revolutionary War weekend. U.S. Continental soldiers will confront British Redcoats to reenact such famous battles as the April 19, 1775, skirmish at Lexington, Mass., which marked the beginning of the American Revolution. Costumed townspeople will reenact Colonial life through dance, metal-casting, spinning, weaving and other period demonstrations.

Sacred Powwow
The 12th annual “Everything Is Sacred” Native American Intertribal Powwow will be held this weekend at Borchard Park in Thousand Oaks. Presented by the California Indian Council Foundation, the alcohol-free event celebrates indigenous peoples throughout the Americas. There will be traditional dancing, drumming, singing, food and crafts.

Music From Afar
Tom and Becky Lowe, local folk-music promoters, will launch another seasonal offering of performers from around the globe Tuesday. First up, Llan de Cubel, a six-member band from Asturias in the mountainous northwest corner of Spain. Celtic culture abounds in the region, as is displayed in this group’s music, which also features Iberian influences. Instrumentation includes Asturian bagpipes, fiddle, flute, bouzouki, pedal bass and more.
