The Amerige Heights development, a 1,250-home project planned on the former Hughes Aircraft site at Malvern Avenue and Gilbert Street, is scheduled for a final vote by the City Council at a special meeting at 6 tonight in the council chamber at City Hall, 303 W. Commonwealth Ave.

Contamination of the site by solvents and chemicals used by Hughes has been determined to be at levels that do not present a significant risk to human health, according to an independent consultant hired by the city to analyze the site.

City officials said the state Department of Toxic Substance Control, which has been reviewing two years’ worth of studies of contamination at the site, has not issued any orders to clean up the property. Raytheon, which bought the land from Hughes, completed a two-year voluntary cleanup of the site in June.
