Zorba the Sweet

Why bother to make dessert when you can buy something as spectacular as the pastry platter from Sweet’s Bakery in Van Nuys? This assortment of Greek and Armenian sweets includes syrup-soaked baklava; kadaifi, which is a roll of nut filling wrapped in fine crisp dough strands; an open-work puff pastry sweet with walnut filling; and leaf-shaped nut-filled cookies called finikia. More than 20 pieces are included, enough to serve a large group because the pastries are so rich. They’re nicely arranged on a covered platter with a flower in the center.
