The Police Department will receive $150,000 from the state to finance school gang prevention officers. The officers will work with high school and junior high school students in the Anaheim Union High School District to help prevent youths from joining gangs.

Anaheim has thousands of young people involved in about 73 gangs, police officials say. The gang prevention officers will do classroom presentations, mentor at-risk students, as well as enforce laws on school campuses.
