Teachers Expected to Get 11% Pay Raise

School board trustees from the Pleasant Valley Elementary School District are expected to approve a labor contract tonight giving teachers a 10.52% raise for the 2000-2001 and 2001-2002 school years.

If approved, the salary increase is expected to cost the district about $2 million, with all other portions of the agreement costing an additional $9,700. The current contract expires at the end of June.

Teachers in the district received a 2% raise in the 1999-2000 school year, said Julie Cavaliere, the district’s labor negotiator.

The district and the teachers union reached a tentative agreement on wages, benefits and evaluations in late August.

“It took a lot of hard work, and a lot of long days,” board President Virginia Norris said. “But it was a wonderful dialogue.”

The board will meet at 6 p.m. in the Camarillo City Hall council chambers, 601 N. Carmen Drive.
