Last year when UC Irvine researchers revealed results of a study showing that musical training at an early age increased higher brain functions and math skills, parents in droves began signing up their toddlers for piano lessons.

But we shouldn’t need research to realize that exposure to art and science in any form can help children develop creativity, build confidence, encourage curiosity and enhance social skills.

If nothing else, participation in the arts and science is better than having a child sit in the living room for hours on end memorizing dialogue in “Brady Bunch” reruns.

Inside this section are listings of fall programs to teach children about theater, art, music, dance, the far reaches of space and creatures of the dark. From participation in the All American Boys Chorus to seeing “The Wizard of Ooze” at the Discovery Science Center, there’s something to inspire and challenge all young minds.
