China Trade Status

* Re “Permanent Trade Status for China Clears Congress,” Sept. 20:

What’s going on? Our lawmakers have now agreed to “trade with China.” Every piece of electronic, electric and plumbing equipment in my home is “Made in China.” Does the new trade agreement mean we now can sell Cadillacs to China?

When our lawmakers established the North American Free Trade Agreement, Hollywood moved to Canada. Our people lost jobs but were able to watch Canadian-made movies. Our manufacturers of everything built factories in Mexico, putting people to work for less than the minimum wage. The finished products were sent back and sold to us at full price.

It is no secret that the CEOs of every large corporation have exchanged hundreds of thousands of people for answering machines. Then they give themselves huge salaries and stock options. Where does the extinct American middle-class worker fit into all of this? Our candidates have a lot of explaining to do before the next election.
