Train Carrying Protesters Impeded
Activists took to the streets of Prague in protests against the World Bank and IMF, but their ranks remained thin as reinforcements were held up at the Czech border. Police halted an Italian protest train heading for the demonstrations, refusing to let it pass the frontier with Austria until four blacklisted activists got off. After the activists left, the rest of the more than 500 passengers refused to go on unless the four could continue to Prague, where the annual meetings open Tuesday. In the Czech capital, meanwhile, only a few peaceful marches straggled through the historic streets.
