3 Million More Americans to Travel This Fall

An estimated 3 million more Americans are expected to travel this fall than a year ago, spurring a 2% increase in autumn travel trends, according to the Travel Industry Assn. of America. Using projections from a survey of 1,000 travelers polled in July, the TIA estimates that as many 154.9 million will travel 50 miles or more from their homes during September, October and November. More than 8 in 10 are expected to travel for pleasure or personal reasons, while 20% cited business as their motivation for hitting the road. More than half of all fall travelers are expected to take a spouse or companion.
