Members of the Planning Commission decided to postpone a vote Monday on a proposal to build a recycling facility at 2101 W. Imperial Highway after a group of residents voiced concerns about odors, noise and possible trash near their homes.

Commissioners moved discussion about the issue to their next meeting in October. Representatives for the applicant, Tomra Pacific Inc., said they would seek to adjust their plans to meet residents’ concerns.

“We can’t disagree with the residents,” said Richard Kern, a representative of Tomra. “We don’t like the extra paperwork and time, but that’s how it is.”

City planners received verbal and written complaints from residents who contended that the facility would be right next to the rear area of their property line. They voiced concerns about people jumping the wall or trash being thrown into their backyards.
