The Planning Department is recommending that the Planning Commission delay making a decision on the proposed development of the second phase of Central Park until after its meeting tonight.

The commission turned down a proposal from Santa Margarita Joint Venture for the second phase of the park at its meeting on Sept. 13. The panel asked staff to work with the developer and residents on a plan more consistent with the community’s desires and bring it back to the commission. The developer has proposed a basic park with walking trails and open grass fields. Residents would like a park with an amphitheater and other distinctive features.

The Planning Commission meets at 6 tonight in the theater of Rancho Santa Margarita Intermediate School, 21931 Alma Aldea.
