WESTMINSTER
City Council members voted recently to deny a request from the Westminster School District to restrict parking near Fay Fryberger Elementary School, at Estes Circle and Hood Drive.
A first-grader walking across Estes Circle was struck and injured by a driver in January. Supt. Barbara DeHart said a truck parked close to a stop sign affected the driver’s view. DeHart asked city officials to prevent cars from parking in the area by painting the curbs red.
But the Traffic Commission recommended that the council deny the request, since the location’s traffic flow does not meet state guidelines used to determine where, when and what kind of traffic and pedestrian devices are installed.
Instead, city officials had a tree trimmed and a crosswalk repainted near the intersection to improve visibility.
