An outdated mailing list sent Vice President Al Gore back to the trough of Johnny Chung, a central figure in the 1996 campaign fund-raising scandals.

A solicitation from Gore’s 2000 presidential campaign included a reproduced appeal from Gore’s campaign manager.

Chung, who pleaded guilty to fund-raising abuses during the 1996 campaign and now writes a column for a conservative Web site, said Thursday he was ignoring the July appeal.

“Been there, done that,” Chung said.

Gore spokesman Douglas Hattaway said the handwriting of campaign manager Donna Brazile was reproduced on the form letter by a computer and was not a personal note to Chung from Brazile.

Hattaway said Chung’s name was on an outdated list of 100,000 names.
