Senate to Hold Hearing on Online Copyright Law

Record labels, rock stars and high-tech entrepreneurs are slated to testify Tuesday at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on online entertainment and copyright law. Supporters of Napster Inc., the embattled song-swapping service, are expected to pack the hearing room to hear Chief Executive Hank Barry appeal for a legislative life preserver. But he’ll be opposed by most of the other members of the panel, including rocker/bow hunter Ted Nugent and EMI Records Chairman Ken Berry. Besides Napster, the hearing probably will explore how digital technologies affect the rights of consumers, artists and songwriters, as well as the implications for the movie industry.
