2 Arrested in Methamphetamine Case

Two Pomona men were in jail Saturday after their arrest on suspicion of manufacturing methamphetamine at a home for disabled children and adults. Several of the home’s residents were in protective custody, police said.

Arrested shortly before midnight Friday at the home in the 500 block of West 7th Street were Mario Baca, 29, and Richard Frederick Fraley, 30. Both are suspected of manufacturing a controlled substance.

Fraley, whose wife runs the residential center, also is suspected of endangering children and dependent adults, police said.

Police evacuated neighbors briefly because the chemicals used in making methamphetamine are highly volatile and can produce a deadly gas.

The Red Cross helped find temporary lodging for the home’s residents, including an 87-year-old man. Two children and five adults were put in protective custody. Among them were Fraley’s 7-year-old son, 11-year-old stepdaughter and 24-year-old mentally disabled stepson, police said.
