Small Handguns Ban, Limits on Ammo Sales

Share

* Re “Limits Weighed on Ammunition Sales,” April 4: I am pleased that the Los Angeles City Council is moving to ban ultra-compact handguns and [limit the sale of] high-caliber ammunition. With L.A. enacting these laws, criminals in Orange County will realize that it is much safer to do their evil deeds in L.A. The resultant exodus of criminals will ensure the continued well-being of Orange County residents, including those who choose not to own a handgun. After all, Orange County still allows law-abiding residents to possess handguns and ammunition, and criminals know it is a bad idea to attack a citizen here. We will certainly do our best to spread the news to criminals that, while our residents might shoot them dead, L.A. residents prefer to be defenseless lambs. Los Angeles residents can find solace in knowing that we appreciate their willingness to make themselves available as easier targets of opportunity. If it saves just one life in Orange County, it is worth it.

How ammunition bans will prevent drive-by shootings is beyond me. I suppose now ammo will be as scarce on the streets as cocaine and other illicit drugs, or booze during Prohibition. Personally, as a competitive shooter, I burn hundreds of rounds a month and build my own ammo. However, due to the anti-self-defense city and county governments, I do not patronize any businesses in L.A. While I must, for now, work in L.A., I don’t spend a single dime there. While my personal boycott won’t break the city, many others feel the same way and do the same thing. If the city persists in passing illegal laws, then I hope its taxpayers pay out huge sums when they lose in court. Maybe then, those who don’t support the Constitution won’t be elected.
