* A talk by rose grower Syl Arena on “What’s New in Roses,” today, 2:30 p.m., with a sale after the talk, at the Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens, 1151 Oxford Road, San Marino, (626) 405-2141, https://www.huntington.org. Free; $8.50 admission to stay and visit gardens.

* The four-day Blooming of the Roses Festival at Exposition Park kicks off with guided walks through the seven-acre rose garden that explain its history as one of L.A.’s oldest gardens, April 19, 1-1:30 p.m., and April 20, from 11-11:30 a.m. and 2-2:30 p.m.

* On April 21, there will be a full day of children’s flower-related programs at the Natural History Museum (call [213] 763-3534 for information). Old rose expert and author Clair Martin will give a talk for adults ($7 admission) on old roses for California gardens in the museum’s Delacour Auditorium from 2-4 p.m., including a walk and Q&A; in the rose garden.

* On April 22, there will be a North University Park and Figueroa Corridor historic buildings and gardens tour, all within a few miles of Exposition Park, including the elaborate Victorian Durfee House and garden. This is a drive-yourself tour ($16 cost, $12 for students) and the necessary materials can be picked up at the Rose Garden, from 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. There will also be free kids’ programs on flower-related crafts and activities from 1-4 p.m. in the Rose Garden.
