AIDS Is No Longer a Death Warrant

Share

Regarding “Buff Bodies in AIDS Ad Are Misleading, Critics Say” (March 19) by Benedict Carey: Mr. Carey needs to update his thinking. In the first paragraph, he refers to AIDS as “still an incurable, deadly disease.” Incurable? Yes. Deadly? Not necessarily. What AIDS has become is an as-yet-incurable, life-threatening disease that can be controlled in most people for an indefinite period of time with modern medications. Every time statements like Mr. Carey’s appear in print, more people think of AIDS as a death warrant, which it definitely is not.
