Freedom for Spam

Share

* “Lone Guns Set Sites on Spam” (April 16) fails to mention that spam is a disruptive technology for media companies for whom advertising is a primary source of revenue. Should commercial e-mailing become a nonobstrusive avenue for soliciting business, which could very well happen as technology advances, constraints on freedom of expression would be unnecessary. Today’s vigilantes would be tomorrow’s enemies of liberty of expression.

I just had to comment about your article on the self-appointed Internet spam sheriffs. These guys must have way too much time on their hands. I get the same spam they get every day and it takes about 15-20 seconds to delete it with no stress or anxiety involved. It’s just junk mail, but these crybabies can’t help whimpering, “Mommy, (sniff) I got an e-mail I didn’t want. Waaaahh.”

Tell these guys to put away the fringed vest, cowboy boots and the tin badge and do like the grown-ups do and throw it out.
