From Times Wire Reports

U.S. and Chinese negotiators staked out tough positions ahead of talks in Beijing today on the return of a U.S. spy plane involved in a collision with a Chinese fighter jet.

Sino-U.S. tensions remain high even after the release of the plane’s 24 crew members, who were held 11 days after making an emergency landing April 1 on Hainan island.

China has demanded an end to U.S. surveillance flights near its territory.

Both sides say they will review the cause of the collision. Beijing insists the U.S. plane caused the accident. U.S. officials say the Chinese jet was probably at fault. The Chinese pilot is presumed dead.
