Man Robs Bank, Then Escapes on Foot

A middle-aged man robbed a Western Financial Bank branch Wednesday afternoon and fled on foot, authorities said.

The robbery occurred about 12:30 p.m. in the 2900 block of East Thousand Oaks Boulevard, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department. No one was injured and as of late Wednesday there were no arrests.

According to authorities, the man demanded cash from a teller and indicated that he had a gun in his jacket pocket. There were no customers in the bank at the time.

The robber, who escaped with an undisclosed amount of money, was described as a white male, 5 foot 7, about 155 pounds, and in his mid-50s. He was wearing a blue baseball cap, a beige sport jacket and blue jeans.

He was last seen heading south on Skyline Drive, authorities said.

Deputies searched the streets around the bank with a helicopter and a dog.

It was the fifth bank robbery in the county this year.
