Lincoln to Sponsor American Design Show at OCMA

With two major donations to local art museums in two months, Ford Motor Co.’s Irvine-based Lincoln is connecting with its artistic side. Lincoln has agreed to sponsor an upcoming exhibition, “American Modern, 1925-1940: Design for a New Age,” opening May 26 at the Orange County Museum of Art in Newport Beach. The car maker will underwrite $50,000 for the show.

The traveling show features 150 objects, including furniture, clocks, appliances, posters, textiles, radios, tableware and even a bathroom sink from the Metropolitan Museum of Art and John C. Waddell collections. Works by 50 leading designers such as Norman Bel Geddes, Donald Deskey, Paul Frankl, Raymond Loewy, Isamu Noguchi, Eliel Saarinen, Walter Dorwin Teague, Walter von Nessen and Russel Wright are in the exhibition.

OCMA is the first stop in a nationwide tour.
