Ill Doctor Arrives From Antarctica
From Times Wire Reports
After an air rescue from a South Pole research station, ailing American doctor Ronald S. Shemenski arrived in Punta Arenas, Chile, aboard a twin-engine propeller plane.
Shemenski said he had mixed feelings about leaving the base. “I’m disappointed. I’d like to be back,” he said. “I feel fine.”
Shemenski has been diagnosed as having pancreatitis that could become life-threatening, and he was to proceed to the U.S. for treatment. He was picked up at the pole Wednesday.
