Man Held in Embassy Blasts May Testify
As lawyers wrap up their case on behalf of four Osama bin Laden followers charged in an alleged plot to kill Americans, one defendant--a former aide to the Saudi dissident--may decide to testify today.
The defense had been expected to finish its arguments last week, but in an unexpected move, lawyers for Wadih Hage, 40, said they wanted to delay ending their case so their client could decide whether to take the stand.
He is one of four men on trial in Manhattan federal court charged with participating in an alleged conspiracy, beginning in 1989, to kill U.S. military personnel and civilians.
None of the other defendants has testified on his own behalf.
Prosecutors allege Hage was part of the plot to bomb two U.S. embassies in Africa in August 1998.
