Maserati hopes to make a splash in the U.S. next spring with a new roadster called, simply, the Spyder.

It will be the first Maserati sold in the U.S. since 1990 and the first of the marque to use a normally aspirated V-8 after two decades of twin-turbo engines.

Pricing is expected to start at $98,000.

The company says top speed for the Spyder will be 175.85 mph--enough to get you in trouble in all 50 states.

The Spyder’s 4.2-liter, 48-valve V-8 is rated at 390 horsepower and 332 foot-pounds of torque. Maserati will offer two transmissions: a Formula 1 racing-derived, sequential six-speed electrohydraulic system--the Cambiocorsa (Italian for “racing gearbox”)--or a six-speed manual.
