Two-time Olympian Chris Chelios of the Detroit Red Wings was appointed captain of the U.S. Olympic men’s hockey team for February’s Salt Lake City Games. As captain of the 1998 Nagano team, Chelios took responsibility for sending a check for $3,000 to Japanese Olympic officials to cover damage caused when several unidentified U.S. players trashed their Olympic dorm room. . . . Right wing Jamie Langenbrunner signed a one-year contract with the Dallas Stars, accepting a reported $1.4 million offer. . . . Center Rod Brind’Amour has agreed to another season with the Carolina Hurricanes at his current salary of $4.25 million, but the deal might change soon because Hurricane General Manager Jim Rutherford wants something more stable. . . . Defenseman Rhett Warrener, in the running to be the next Buffalo Sabres’ captain, signed a one-year deal with the team. . . . The Pittsburgh Penguins agreed to terms with goalie Jean-Sebastien Aubin and forward Aleksey Morozov. . . . The Philadelphia Flyers traded defenseman Andy Delmore to the Nashville Predators for a third-round pick in the 2002 entry draft.
