The Gift of Giving

Thank you for the pictures from the Long Beach Boat and Ski Club (“The Ride of Her Life,” July 28). Young Allisa Head looked in very capable hands with Wayne Centra and his other volunteer buddies. The love he shows in the pictures is very evident. I cried. Thanks for reminding me that there are still a few truly nice guys left in the world, Wayne.

As a father of a severely challenged daughter who died recently, I think Centra and others have also discovered an amazing fact: Any kindness, any small gesture you show, is remembered and returned, unconditionally, from these very special human beings. Try it. Volunteer at a Special Olympics-type event just once. I promise you, it won’t be your last.
