Violence in Kashmir Leaves 15 People Dead
Fifteen people have been killed in violence across the strife-torn Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, police and witnesses said.
A teenage boy was killed and nine people wounded when security forces opened fire on a mourning procession in Budgam district, nine miles west of Srinagar, witnesses said. Security officials blamed the casualties on an exchange of fire started by Muslim militants battling Indian rule.
In the southern part of the state, two guerrillas who were trying to plant a land mine were killed when the device went off, authorities said.
