Teen’s Boot Camp Death Ruled an Accident
Preliminary autopsy findings say the death of a 14-year-old boy at a boot camp for troubled youth last month was an accident, according to the Maricopa County medical examiner’s office.
Anthony Haynes died of complications of a near-drowning, according to medical examiner’s records read over the phone to Associated Press by a receptionist at the examiner’s office.
The boy was participating in a “tough love” boot camp near Buckeye, west of Phoenix, when he died July 1. A court document said he was forced to stand in sweltering heat as punishment and drowned at a motel, where he vomited mud.
