Ocean of Luxury, Electronics

After three years of renovation work, one of the biggest homes on the Palos Verdes Peninsula is on the market, fully furnished. Despite its size of almost 16,000 square feet, the Palos Verdes Estates home is not visible from the street.

About this house: Lee and Myra Perlmans bought the ocean-view estate in 1997, shortly after it was built.

With the help of designer Mark Enos, the Perlmans brought in artisans from Europe and added marble, granite, new lighting and wall coverings. They added surround-sound in several rooms, including the two-story grand foyer, and a three-tiered media room, which has a smoking area with its own air-filtration system.

Lee Perlman is a cigar smoker, and so he also had a humidor built in place of a closet.

“Everything stays except the wine and the cigars,” said listing agent Ailene Staggs.

There is a gym with a sauna, and a wine room capable of storing 1,500 bottles. Through a soundproof glass and stainless steel door is the media room, which cost almost $2 million to build.

Lee Perlman, a partner in New Age Electronics Inc., saw to it that the latest in electronics controls were installed in the theater and elsewhere--to light a fire, lower a chandelier, dim the lights.

Asking price: $14.5 million, just reduced from $16 million. The home has been for sale since February.

Size: Six bedrooms and 8.5 baths in almost 16,000 square feet. The media room is an estimated 1,300 square feet. The house is on more than an acre with an orchard and a garden.

Features: Eight fireplaces, an elevator and a game room with pinball and a pool table. The home also has his-and-hers three-car garages, a swimming pool and a tennis court.

Where: Palos Verdes Estates
