Baltimore Raven offensive tackle Leon Searcy will miss up to three months because of a torn triceps tendon in his left arm.

Searcy, signed by the Ravens as a free agent in March, will need surgery to repair the injury, which occurred Friday night during the first play of an intrasquad scrimmage at Westminster, Md.

Searcy, 31, will miss 10 to 12 weeks. His spot on the line will be taken by Harry Swayne, who started at right tackle for the Super Bowl champions last year.

“That’s where a guy like Harry Swayne is invaluable to us,” Raven Coach Brian Billick said. “We’ve won a Super Bowl with Harry Swayne at right tackle. So, obviously we’re very comfortable.”

Searcy sat out the 2000 season after tearing the quadriceps in his right knee during training camp with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He hasn’t played in an NFL game since 1999, his lone Pro Bowl season.

New England Patriot wide receiver Terry Glenn, suspended for the team’s first four regular-season games for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy, did not attend practice at Smithfield, R.I.

“He was not at practice and he was supposed to be,” team spokesman Stacey James said. “It was an unexcused absence.”

James said the team did not know Glenn’s whereabouts. He refused to comment on the consequences Glenn could face for missing practice.

James was unable to confirm whether Glenn asked for permission to attend the funeral of his former Ohio State teammate, Korey Stringer of the Minnesota Vikings. Stringer died Wednesday from heatstroke.

Stringer’s funeral is scheduled to take place today in Warren, Ohio.

Hundreds of mourners filed into a sweltering high school fieldhouse at Warren, Ohio, to pay their respects at Stringer’s public viewing Sunday.

The viewing was scheduled to start at 2 p.m. EDT, but people were allowed in 25 minutes early because 110 were waiting in line. The flow of fans remained steady throughout the day.

John Carney, 37, one of the NFL’s most accurate kickers, signed a one-year contract with the New Orleans Saints. Financial terms were not announced.

Herman Moore will be sidelined at least three weeks after the Detroit Lions’ star receiver separated his left shoulder during practice at University Center, Mich.

Moore, a four-time Pro Bowl player, was injured Thursday when he tripped over another player.

In his absence, the Lions will rely on rookie Scotty Anderson and second-year receiver Larry Foster.
