* Edward Steichen, longtime photographer at Vanity Fair, had a gift for capturing many of the movie icons of his age in memorable snapshots, allowing viewers to get a glimpse of their personalities forever. * The renowned Bumbershoot Music Festival is happening Aug. 31-Sept. 3. This year’s lineup features American headliner favorites, Mos Def, the Black Crowes, Loretta Lynn, David Lee Roth, Taj Mahal, the Phantom Blues Band, Spalding Gray and Rufus Wainwright. The world music headliners are Israel’s Yair Dalal, Ireland’s Mary Black, China’s Lily Cai Chinese Dance Co. and Morocco’s Bachir & Mustapha Attar. * Earning points for inventiveness is the Henry Art Gallery with its new exhibition, “VOLUME: Bed of Sound,” through Sept. 30. A 60-foot futon sits at the center of a room, equipped with 58 listening stations that offer historical and contemporary sound works, several of which were commissioned specifically for this exhibition.
