Nursing Home Fined $70,000 in Man’s Death
A nursing home was fined $70,000 and cited for allegedly failing to monitor an elderly man with special needs, directly causing his death, state health officials said Wednesday.
Medical Hill Rehabilitation Center did not ensure that the demented 88-year-old man was properly fed through a stomach tube, said the state Department of Health and Human Services.
The man, whose identity was withheld because of patient confidentiality, died March 15 of aspiration pneumonia--in which foreign material, such as food, enters the lungs, authorities said.
