From Times Wire Reports

Thunderstorms forced NASA to call off the launch of space shuttle Discovery on a mission to deliver fresh supplies and a new crew to the international space station.

Launch controllers said they would try again late this afternoon, though the weather was expected to worsen.

Thick, dark clouds began moving in and a lightning warning was announced over loudspeakers as the last of the seven astronauts and cosmonauts was strapped in place.

With no improvement in sight, launch director Mike Leinbach halted the countdown at the nine-minute mark.
