Cusack’s Acerbity

Share

Duane Tudahl’s fuming letter (Aug. 4) fired at John Cusack painfully misses the point. When Cusack says, “My parents did get that $300. They’re going to pay off the mortgage, and all the grandchildren will be well looked after,” it seems to me that he is acerbically noting the “quick-fix” bread crumbs that Bush hustled out to America. At the same time, the administration thumbs its arrogant nose at the Kyoto treaty (and the rest of the world), proceeds with as much environmental dismantling and devastation as possible, and puts the interests of the richest 5% at the top of the list.

Yes, $300 is $300. But I’m sure Cusack’s remarks come from outrage and concern rather than “sickening hypocrisy.” The real sickening hypocrisy is Dick Cheney’s $25 million in stock bonuses from Big Oil while he leads the charge to start the drilling in Alaska.
