Definition of Anarchist Can Be Misleading

Share

The use of the word “anarchist” is a misleading generalization (“The Anarchists Next Door, Aug. 3). With the absence of any explanation of the term, it carries a connotation that has an immediate discrediting effect to our work, as well as the work of our colleagues, anarchists or not. We, along with our allies, are engaged in work that is aimed at creating social justice and strengthening democracy worldwide.

We do not believe that our participation in the international movement against a globalization that puts profit before people makes us anarchists. Also, we do not consider the ideals of liberty and equality to be radical beliefs--they are in fact, mainstream concerns of billions of people around the world, and should be treated as such.
