Can the mayor of New York be a fan of the Boston Red Sox? Billionaire Michael Bloomberg, a Republican candidate, certainly hopes so.
Bloomberg, 59, who grew up in a suburb of Boston, has been upfront about his allegiance, though he hasn’t voluntarily disclosed it. After all, this is a city where many fans of the hometown Yankees view the Red Sox with . . . well, is hatred a strong enough word?
Several news organizations reported Bloomberg’s “Red Sox problem” in April. But that was just after spring training. Now, with the pennant race heating up between the Yankees and Red Sox--not to mention the mayoral race--the “problem” reemerged this week.
