Trial Set in 1993 Slaying of Port Hueneme Woman
A Sept. 19 trial has been set for a Ventura man accused of raping and strangling a Port Hueneme woman in her home eight years ago.
Michael Schultz, 32, is charged with one count of murder committed during an alleged rape and burglary.
Schultz is eligible for the death penalty, although prosecutors have not decided whether to seek it. An announcement, expected next month, could delay the trial, which is expected to take two to three months.
Prosecutors say Schultz raped and strangled car dealership manager Cynthia Burger, 44, on Aug. 5, 1993, and then set fire to her home.
