Runaway Boy, 12, Found in Hawaii
A 12-year-old Hawthorne boy who ran away from home early Saturday, walked to LAX and slipped aboard a Hawaii-bound flight was found in Honolulu on Thursday, police said.
“He said he was tired of his mother disciplining him,” said Lt. Wayne Salmon.
The boy’s father lives in Hawaii and the boy had not seen him for 10 years.
Early Saturday, the boy packed a bag, and walked several hours until he reached the airport, Salmon said. Engulfed by a crush of passengers boarding the plane, he sneaked aboard.
He spent several days in Honolulu sleeping in parks and begging for money.
“For some reason he returned to the airport on Thursday and took a liking to a necklace,” Salmon said. “He tried to steal it and got arrested.”
