Jet Carrying 304 Glides to Emergency Landing
A Canadian airliner carrying 304 people across the Atlantic glided to an emergency landing in Portugal’s Azores islands without engine power, bursting tires when it hit the runway and slightly injuring 10 passengers, officials said.
The Air Transat Airbus A-330 was at risk of ditching in the ocean after a fuel leak developed, officials said, but the pilot managed to land with both engines off at the Lajes Airport on Terceira island in the Azores, about 800 miles off Portugal.
The jet was en route from Toronto to Lisbon.
