The state Supreme Court has agreed to hear a defense appeal of a decision to hold in adult court the murder trial of Kennedy nephew Michael Skakel, his lawyer said Friday.

Justices set the Sept. 25 date to hear the appeal of a decision last January that moved the case from juvenile to adult court, said Michael Sherman, Skakel’s attorney.

Skakel, 40, a nephew of the late U.S. Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, is charged with the 1975 murder of Martha Moxley, a neighbor who was beaten to death at her family’s Greenwich estate.

Skakel and Moxley were 15 at the time.
