Naval Weapons Station to Get New Commander
Navy Capt. Rusty Mirick will relieve Capt. Paul Bruno as the commanding officer of the Naval Weapons Station in Seal Beach in a traditional change-of-command ceremony at the station Friday.
Mirick, a native of Lancaster, Pa., and a Naval Academy graduate, has more than 20 years of Navy experience.
He has been commanding officer of the USS Hoist; commanding officer of Mobile Diving Salvage Unit One, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; and chief staff officer of an explosive ordnance disposal group in Coronado.
His most recent assignment was to the National War College in Washington, D.C., where he graduated in June with a master’s degree in national security strategy.
Bruno is to become the next U.S. Naval Attache to Brazil.
Speaker for Friday’s invitation-only ceremony will be Rear Adm. Frederic R. Ruehe, who is responsible for all Navy installations in California, Arizona and Nevada.
