Ex-Rep. Rogan Wins Undersecretary Post
Former Rep. James E. Rogan (R-Glendale) won Senate confirmation as undersecretary of Commerce for intellectual property and director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Rogan, a high-profile House prosecutor in the Senate’s 1999 impeachment trial of then-President Clinton, won confirmation without a word of dissent from the Democratic-controlled Senate.
President Bush nominated Rogan to the post in May.
Along with gaining national attention for his role in the impeachment trial, Rogan became the Democrats’ top target for defeat in the 2000 campaign. He lost the election in the 27th Congressional District to Democrat Adam Schiff.
Rogan expects to start his new job in about a week, a spokesman said. He will oversee a staff of about 6,200 based in Arlington, Va., with an annual budget of $1.2billion. He is expected to earn about $130,000 a year.
