Taking Wing

Celebrating 22 years of raising funds for the treatment and prevention of domestic violence, Interval House Crisis Shelters sponsored its annual Le Bal des Papillons (Ball of the Butterflies) at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Dana Point.

About 400 guests attended the black-tie gala last weekend that featured gourmet cuisine and a rousing, stand-up routine by comedian Elayne Boosler.

Net proceeds of $120,000 from the event will go toward the organization’s programs in Los Angeles and Orange counties. The programs provide shelter and education services for battered women and their children.

“Because we have an ethnically diverse staff, Interval House can provide services in 40 languages,” a spokeswoman said.

Among the guests: Interval House board chairman Robert W. Armstrong and his wife, Cindy; gala chairwoman Joyce Kakkis; Isa Rogers; Marcia Clark; Christopher Darden; Jane Kean; Lee Meriwether; Beverly Garland; Mark Thompson; Shirley Jones and Marty Ingels.

Scores of floral arrangements in green, white, gold and red--donated by 17 florists--set a festive tone for the Camino Health Center Auxiliary’s “A Christmas Fantasy” luncheon and holiday fashion show.

More than 600 women attended the event at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Dana Point on Nov. 20 that netted $130,000 for the center’s medical and dental clinics and nutrition programs.

“We are a community of volunteers helping those who have inadequate or no health care,” auxiliary board member Arlene Baker said. “The center has more than 80,000 patient visits per year.”

Guests included benefit chairwoman Anne Crawford, auxiliary board president Kate Roth and Donna Schuller.

Literary Debut

“These are the chicest people I’ve ever seen at one of these things,” said Paul Curwin of Rizzoli’s as he checked out the queue waiting to buy super-socialite Terry Stanfill’s new novel.

Joan Hotchkis and Kacey McCoy managed to muster the social A-troop for Monday’s cocktail reception and signing session held at Christie’s Beverly Hills, in honor of Stanfill’s literary debut, “The Blood Remembers” (Elton-Wolf Publishing).

Over the years, when she hasn’t been chairing a benefit ball or “preserving” something--from the Pasadena Library to a Venetian monument--Stanfill has been at her computer writing. “I’ve completed two other books, but this is the first one published,” she said.

Like Rose, the leading character in her novel, Stanfill says she felt compelled by an inner voice. “I’ve had it in my mind for so long. Everyone has a story to tell. Never listen to people who tell you ‘you can’t do it.’ Do it anyway.”

Among those on hand was Stanfill’s husband, Dennis, former CEO of 20th Century Fox, who offered that he’s “enjoying my new career as her business manager.”

Also in the crowd: Judith and Steve Krantz, Tim Vreeland, Suzanne Rheinstein, Eunice and Hal David, Tamara Asseyev, Jennifer and Royce Diener, Judy Frank, Jan McCord, Gail and Gerald Oppenheimer, Jo Ann and Julian Ganz, Lois and Bob Erburu, Peggy and Walter Grauman.
